Change default programs using Set Program Access and Computer Defaults

In this tutorial we will show you how to use Windows XP's Set Program Access and Defaults to set which programs will open for certain tasks. If you are alwalys feeling tired of you are applications that are not opend by the programs that you wish and they open up some default programs that you dont like. For example if you clik a vedio file it is opened up by windows media player and you want to change it, then this lesson is probably for you.
This option allows us to change the program configuration. Aprogram configuration specifies default programs for certain activities, such as web browsing or sending e-mail, and which program are accessible from menu, desktop, and locations.
Goto Start -> Set Program Access and Defaults.
(If you are working with the classic start menu you can open it under Add/Remove program
The set Program Access and Defaults Window will be displayed.
There are 3 configuration options that can be set. Microsoft default, Non Microsoft and Custom.
Microsof Windows option will default all programs to Microsoft Programs.
Non-Microsoft will use any non-Microsoft applocation and prevent access to Microsoft programs.
The importan one that we have to discuss is the Custom.
Here you can decide and give access to the program that you prefer. They can be set as default. If you want always to open Mozilla Thunderbird email client or any other one instead of Microsoft Outlook when you click a mail to link within the web browser, under choose defaul e-mail program, select the program you wish. For this task to work, you must have installed another e-mail client other than Microsoft Outlook.
Once you have finish the settings press ok.
